Fancy Footwork for Gourmet Sewing

Just like all the special tools for your kitchen, we have the right tools for your sewing, come and learn about some of our most popular feet while taking these fun little classes. Project classes with lots of learning, laughing, and you will love what these feet can do. Feet will be available to try in class.

EMBELLISHMENTS

Hands on tour of surface embellishment: corded pintucks, couching, braided ribbon work, twisted tucks, double needle and wing needle, one-of-a-kind trims and specialty threads. You’ll meet some very helpful feet and stabilizers along the way. By the end of the trip you and your sewing machine will have discovered more fun ways to work together. Bring your machine, and its overnight bag (you know, the foot control, power cord, bobbin case(s) and presser feet. Sit and Sew.

CRAZY PATCH QUILTING

Learn this age old technique of piecing together your scraps. Use those wonderful stitches in your machine in place of hand embroidery. JANA'S BROOMSTICK SKIRT

This year’s hottest trend ~ a fashion staple here in the Old West, borrowed from the Navajo ~ adapted by Fashion designers like Koos and Lauren. Learn to construct in panels, embellish with specialty laces, trims, beautiful bias, or leave plain. Great made from cottons, velvets, silks, lace, netting and many other fabric combinations. Class skirt will be made out of cotton. First class: form and embellish the separate bands, learn techniques on the bias binder foot, quilt binding tape makers and cording feet. Week two will be construction. If you love quilting, or like to be artistic and create your own fabric, you will love it. *Can be constructed on sewing machine, or serger. Sit and Sew, 2 lessons.

AFRICAN PANEL SKIRTS

These skirts look great on everyone! Made up of gores (and godets if you like, for some extra flounce). These skirts make up quickly and are a wonderful opportunity to use embroidery, or other embellishments on each panel for a one of a kind garment. Sit and Sew 2 lessons.

Overview of our most basic software for artista embroidery machines. Select stitch patterns and embroidery designs from CPS software library and download to your sewing / embroidery machine. Come and learn a magical way to make the final join on your quilt binding less bulky. We’ll make a clean, right angle join that will finish off your binding perfectly. GEMS OF THE ORIENT: PAPER PIECING

Use up all those beautiful scraps of Oriental Fabrics you are hanging on to. This block method is like an organized crazy patch. Sews up very quickly, once you decide which fabrics to use! Then add a tiny sashing between the blocks. Makes a stunning wall hanging, but could be made up into a full size quilt easily. Also would be suitable for other fine fabrics like velvets and silk. Thought making a doll was too expensive or too hard to do? This is the class for you! Dolls and costumes are on display in the store. Learn how to paint eyes, eyelashes, eyebrows, lips and cheeks. Make a new ensemble each month! You choose the dolls and costumes. Each doll takes 6 weeks to complete. Doll Kits include porcelain 12” doll, everything to paint the doll, wig and pate. Costume Kits include pattern, fabric, snaps, buttons, shoe kit, anything needed for particular kit chosen.

I SPY MOTHER / DAUGHTER BEAN BAG

Make this entertaining toy or novelty piece with your daughter. Fun for any age. Fill the bag with 25 items from a huge selection and the search is on! Choose your themes: children, or sewing. All materials provided, but you may also want to include small coins (they are challenging to find), and up to four photos with a maximum size of 2x2”. Favorite choices for pictures are the child or friend who will receive it, Nana, Papa or pets. Photos will be laminated for durability. Samples are at store. Sit and Sew 1 lesson.

THE NAVAJO CHICKEN

From a land of Mystery, Canyons and legends, comes the adorable Chicken. Inspiried by Navajo wood craftsmen who carve folk art Chickens, we will create wool felt chickens and embellish them with hand work and beading ~ traditional dress or do your own thing. Stuff it or appliqué it in the flat for a one of a kind wall hanging or pillow front. You may want to make more than just one: it makes a wonderful, treasured gift ~ it always gets a smile. Sit and Sew, 2 lessons. All supplies needed will be included. You may wish to add other specialty items.

BLENDING PHOTOS WITH FABRIC

Capture memories and learn to transfer them quickly to fabric. Then create a landscape quilt, a memory quilt, unique home-dec items, working from your photo. Learn about printing your photos on fabric and then incorporating them into a project. Bring a photo (or even a post card, greeting card, or original artwork you would like to use), or use one of several available in class. Sit and Sew, 1 lesson, 3 hours.

LANDSCAPE QUILTING

Take a photo that speaks a thousand words, transfer it to fabric, and incorporate it into a landscape quilt that will speak to those who view it. Sunset photos work well, many other subjects may work too. First class: look at / select photos, transfer them to fabric, and select fabrics. Second class: work on building the landscape, finishing and some beading techniques. Sit and Sew, 2 lessons.
